MOUNTAIN TOOLS DAISY CHAIN
The sport, trad and big wall
climbers’ secondary attachment point - for position
and convenience. Girth hitch into harness (at
tie-in point or belay loop) for an "unclippable"
attachment, then clip a locking carabiner into
end loop with bar-tacks - this is what you clip
to your anchor, ascender, etc. If you need to
clip in "short" (reduce the length of
the tensioned chain), clip a second locking
carabiner to a middle loop and then clip it to
the end biner. This biner-to-biner connection
is necessary to avoid total failure if the ANCHOR
CHAIN becomes overloaded - and is common to all
"daisy" chains. Remember it is always
good practice to anchor the climbing team with
the rope, stay tied in (to the rope) while ascending
and always have two separate (redundant) connections
to your anchor.
Choose 11/16" Nylon (slightly more dynamic
for aid climbing) or lighter weight 12mm Ultratape
for all around use.
